Frequently asked questions

What does a chiropractor do?

We take a full case history listening in particular to the current symptoms you are experiencing. We then check posture, how well your joints are moving, how strong different muscles are, as well as standard orthopaedic and neurological tests. Some specialist testing may also be carried out depending on your presenting complaint.

A discussion then takes place to recap our findings and we recommend your individualised treatment plan. We are happy to answer any questions you may have at any stage in this process.

Some treatment approaches involve quick, small, specifically directed pressures towards joints that might be ‘stuck’ (adjustments) with soft tissue or stretching techniques used when appropriate. We may also advise other treatment approaches which can be discussed at your appointment.

As primary health care practitioners, if there is anything that we feel might warrant further investigation, we will refer you to another healthcare professional such as your GP.

What do I wear to a chiropractic session?

You will not be asked to undress in this practice, as you might in others. For this reason, a degree of flexibility is important when it comes to clothing. Please wear loose, comfortable garments. Over the years we’ve been faced with motorbike leathers, tight/skinny jeans, shell suits and embellished leotards, all of which made treatment pretty tricky and can detract from the potential benefits of your session. If you do forget on the day don’t worry, a gown will be made available to you.

How often should I see a chiropractor?

The answer to this very much depends on multiple factors such as how long you’ve had an issue, your age, general health condition etc, and also depends on what your aims are with treatment. At your first appointment, we may be able to give you a general idea based on our experience as to how long it will take to get where you want to be, but as you know everyone is unique and no two people are the same! Regular re-assessments and progress checks are carried out to help monitor your improvement and we find that many of our patients like coming for ‘MOT checks’ every few months (just as you would with the dentist) to allow them to keep doing the things they love to do without pain or restriction. This can all be discussed with your chiropractor to ensure we are on the same page as we assist you towards your goals.

What if I don’t want ‘clicked’?

In this practice you will never be subjected to any treatment that you don’t consent to or are not fully happy with. If you don’t like the approach being proposed, there are always other options to explore until you find the right fit for you. This is why our team loves having trained in so many different approaches to treatment!

Is chiropractic safe for babies and children?

Yes, many chiropractors are trained to a high level in paediatric anatomy, physiology and biomechanics and very gentle treatment approaches are used to help babies and children. These are very different techniques from the ones used with adults. Most adjustments involve no more contact than you would use to test an avocado or tomato for ripeness! We have a collective experience of over 30 years treating babies and children with over 400 hours of post-graduate study dedicated to children, which helps us to keep up-to-date with recent research and the most effective approaches available. Our team integrates training from all of the other therapies they have studied to work with this population.

How much do chiropractors charge?

As chiropractic is not widely available within the NHS yet, patients do have to pay privately for care and each chiropractic clinic sets its own charges. At this clinic we enjoy being able to operate appointment times that give us time to listen to each individual patient and provide the best in specialised and bespoke care. We believe that chiropractic should be as easily accessible to patients as possible and we try to encourage your body (through treatment and home advice) to heal as fully and efficiently as possible. Please see pricing. You will not be required to pay up front for treatments at CoreHealth Chiropractic.

Are my treatments covered by my health insurance?

Probably. Chiropractic is a recognised health profession with most insurers nowadays. Check if it is included in your policy and if so, receipts can be generated so you can claim your costs back from them.
